Introduction:
A Work Permit is vital for ensuring safety and compliance on construction sites and in hazardous workplaces. It mandates thorough hazard identification and risk assessment before work begins, enabling the implementation of effective control measures. Although hazard identification processes may vary, it is crucial to accurately identify all potential hazards. Following this, a risk assessment evaluates the severity and likelihood of these hazards, allowing the creation of comprehensive safety controls. The WP HIRA form simplifies this process, providing an accessible document for workers to ensure safe operations. Learning Objectives:
- Identify Hazardous Work Environments.
- Identify the main types and sources of workplace hazards and their potential consequences.
- Understand Risk Assessment Methodologies.
- Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions (use of likelihood and severity scales to rank risks; control hierarchy)
- Identify and evaluate options for controlling hazards.
- Have technical and practical knowledge to develop controls, and methods to either eliminate the hazards or mitigate their consequences.
- Apply technical methods to identify risk and analyze hazards.
