With a career spanning over three decades, he has made significant contributions to safety and risk practices in complex industrial environments. Gus Carroll has held key leadership roles in prominent energy companies, including Centrica and Spirit Energy, where he focused on enhancing safety culture, risk assessment, and the implementation of safety management systems.
He is known for his deep technical knowledge and his ability to drive safety improvements in both upstream and downstream operations. He has been a strong advocate for integrating technology and innovation into safety processes, supporting the use of machine learning and big data analytics to improve safety outcomes.
Gus is a chartered chemical engineer, a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is the winner of the prestigious Franklin Medal for process safety for 2023. He was previously a Director of EPSC and currently chairs the UK Major Accident Strategic Forum, whose members comprise UK safety, environmental and nuclear regulators, senior industry leaders and government departments.
