“Fire Dynamics Simulations (FDS) using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) have transformed the approach to fire safety engineering. This presentation explores the application of CFD in simulating fire scenarios to better predict fire behavior and enhance safety strategies. The study covers three simulations: a portacabin fire, a crude oil tank pool fire, and hydrogen dispersion in a battery room. The portacabin fire model demonstrates the importance of selecting appropriate materials and
highlights critical considerations for first responders. The crude oil tank pool fire scenario assesses heat transfer dynamics and the effectiveness of bunds and deluge systems in mitigating domino effects. The findings emphasize the value of FDS in understanding complex fire behaviors, optimizing emergency response planning, and designing safer facilities. By leveraging CFD tools, safety engineers can improve risk assessments, develop effective fire protection strategies, and ultimately build a safer operational environment”
